Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Set for 200GB Launch with Expanded Character Content
Square Enix confirms Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's April 2027 release, highlighting a massive 200GB file size and enriched gameplay featuring new storylines and characters from the FF7 universe.
Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the concluding installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, will launch on April 8, 2027. The game is notable for its enormous file size, expected to reach approximately 200GB—significantly larger than the 100GB and 155GB sizes of its predecessors, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth respectively. Director Naoki Hamaguchi indicated this size is necessary to accommodate the game's vast content and high-quality assets, requiring two physical Blu-ray discs alongside a substantial download. He remarked on the challenge by stating the team needed to "overcome the hardware to a certain extent."[1][4] [1][4]
In terms of narrative and gameplay, Cloud Strife continues as the central character, but the development team has expanded the focus to offer players more diverse experiences with the supporting cast. Players will have the flexibility to switch characters freely and customize party compositions during side quests to enhance engagement. New storylines will explore characters like Red 13 through the Queen’s Blood card game, alongside additional lore for Tifa showcased in a piano mini-game, aiming to deepen players' connections to these heroes.[2] [2]
Moreover, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is set to feature characters and references from the broader Final Fantasy 7 Compilation, including appearances by fan-favorites Vincent Valentine and Cissnei. The developers noted they deliberated extensively on including more compilation elements to enrich the trilogy’s finale and provide a more comprehensive experience for longtime fans. This suggests an expanded universe that integrates multiple facets of the FF7 storyline across spin-offs and the core narrative.[3] [3]
